Programs for Students

Students: the AMS is YOUR professional society. Whether you are a member yet or not, the AMS wants to help you find programs and mathematical opportunities and discover the career path that is right for you.

Graduate students

The AMS offers a Blog by and for grad students in the mathematical sciences, a Travel Grant program for the January mathematics meetings, and a free Nominee Membership to full time graduate students in AMS Institutional Member departments. The Annual Survey tracks new doctorate and reports on their employment status. Mathematics Research Communities (MRC), an AMS program, nurtures early-career mathematicians—those who are close to finishing their doctorates or have recently finished—and provides them with opportunities to build social and collaborative networks to inspire and sustain each other in their work. Find helpful links to all Graduate Student Programs.

Undergraduate students

Undergraduate students ... need information about Graduate Programs? Summer Research Programs? Special Semesters for math majors? See lists of undergraduate math clubs, conferences, journals, competitions, and honorary societies, and find career resources on the Undergraduate page.

High school students

The AMS runs several programs specifically for high school students, such as the Arnold Ross Lectures and the popular Who Wants to Be a Mathematician game. Be sure to check the High School Students and Their Teachers page for Advanced Summer Research Programs, mathematical clubs, events and contests, career information, and AMS Posters.
